As many of you know, FAMS graduate, Charlie Landers, passed away in 2022 after a long battle with cancer. This loss was felt throughout the Franklin Lakes community and there has been an outpouring of support for Charlie. Please see this video to get a better understanding of Charlie and the life he lived.
As Charlie battled through his treatments and would return to FAMS, he would ask to wear a hat. As a school, we would hold a hat day for all to make Charlie feel welcomed and comfortable. On Thursday, March 26, 2026, Franklin Lakes Public Schools will once again "Tip a Cap" to honor both Charlie and the sport he loved, baseball. We ask all staff and students to help raise funds for The Charlie Landers Foundation by donating at least $7 to wear a hat to school while also wearing your team's favorite gear on the Opening Day of Major League Baseball. Or, you can also opt to wear one of the many Charlie Landers shirts that are seen around the community or head to their shop to purchase other gear. All money raised will be donated to the CL Foundation and to Charlie's vision of helping others diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma. Students and staff interested in participating can bring in cash or checks made out to FAMS or directly to the Charlie Landers Foundation.
Additionally, a Franklin Lakes family has generously donated 4 Empire Suite Tickets to a 2026 New York Mets game. Anyone can be entered into this raffle by donating an additional $20 per entry (multiple entries will be accepted). To be included, please submit entries in a separate envelope labeled, "CL7 - Mets Suite" to your school's Main Office. This prize package includes; 4 Empire Suite Tickets, VIP parking, as well as food & drinks. Offer is good for any game for the 2026 season excluding Opening Day, Subway Series, or playoffs games. Let's go Mets!!
The Charlie Landers Foundation is committed to carrying on Charlie's wishes to create care packages for others battling cancer while also funding innovative research and treatments against Ewing’s Sarcoma by providing grants and donations to cutting-edge projects.
Please join me, the Landers family, and the Franklin Lakes community in "tipping our cap" to Charlie and raising funds for the Charlie Landers Foundation on Thursday, March 26.
"Charlie’s legacy isn’t cancer. It’s joy!"
