March 28 - Tip the Cap to Charlie Landers

As many of you know, FAMS graduate, Charlie Landers, passed away after a long battle with cancer. This loss was felt throughout the Franklin Lakes community and there has been an outpouring of support for Charlie.

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, Franklin Lakes Public Schools will host a Spirit Day to honor both Charlie and the sport he loved, baseball.  We ask all staff and students to ‘Tip a Cap’ to Charlie and help raise funds for The Charlie Landers Foundation by donating at least $7 to wear a hat to school while also wearing your team's favorite gear on the Opening Day of Major League Baseball.  Or, you can also opt to wear one of the many Charlie Landers shirts that are seen around the community.  During lunch at FAMS, students and staff will also be selling different products from the Charlie Landers Foundation. All money raised will be donated to the CL Foundation. Students and staff interested in participating can bring in cash or checks made out to FAMS or directly to the Charlie Landers Foundation.

Additionally, a Franklin Lakes family has generously donated 4 Empire Suite Tickets to a 2024 Mets game.  Anyone can be entered into this raffle by donating an additional $20 per entry (multiple entries will be accepted).  To be included, please submit entries in a separate envelop labeled, "CL7 - Mets Suite" to your school's Main Office.  This prize package includes; 4 Empire Suite Tickets, VIP parking, as well as food & drinks.  Offer is good for any game for the 2024 season excluding Opening Day, Subway Series, or playoffs games.  Let's go Mets!!

The Charlie Landers Foundation was created to help raise funds and awareness for Ewing’s Sarcoma research.  Additionally, Charlie expressed a desire to create care packages for others battling cancer, each one containing 7 items to help them through their treatment.  The CL Foundation is committed to creating these care packages for children dealing with Ewing’s Sarcoma.

Please join me and the FAMS staff in "tipping our cap" to Charlie and raising funds for the Charlie Landers Foundation on Thursday, March 28. Any student who donates at least $7 will be entered to win four tickets to the New York Yankees Opening Weekend game on Sunday.

"Charlie’s legacy isn’t cancer. It’s joy!"
